EL CHALTEN is the indigenous name for the Fitz Roy mount: located to the north of the noroccidental end of the lake Viedma inside the Viedma Area of the National Park Los Glaciares. You arrive by the national route #40 until connecting with the provincial route #23 wich toward west skirts the north coast of the mentioned lake. In the place just few hundred people inhabit but they receive many tourists in the summery season especially the fanatics of the mountaineering, since it is the starting point for the ascent to the famous mount Fitz Roy 3,400 meters high, to which the villagers call Chalten.
