How to get to Chaiten

Car From Puerto Montt: toward the south by the route #7 (begining of the southern highway) there are 45 kilometers until La Arena, where you take a ferry to cross the estuary of Reloncaví (30 minutes) until Caleta Puelches. From there other 55 kilometers until Hornopirén. There, another ferry crosses the fiords Comau and Reñihue (5 hours) until Caleta Gonzalo, from where it is necessary to travel other 68 kilometers to arrive to destination. Total of the journey: 168 kilometers of rubble.
