Saturday:
1.00 p.m.- 5.00 p.m.: Passengers check in at Magallanes
990, Punta Arenas.
6.00 pm -7.00 pm: Boarding "Mare Australis"
Expedition cruiseship. The crew, headed by the Captain,
will welcome you aboard for cocktails with your cruise
companions. Immediately after, the ship will depart
towards the city of Ushuaia, through the mythical Strait
of Magellan, sailing through the Patagonian Channels
and around Tierra del Fuego. The beginning of a great
adventure.
Sunday:
With the first light of dawn, navigation will continue
through Almirantazgo Fjord. We will disembark in Ainsworth
Bay near Marinelli Glacier, where we will take a walk
to see an elephant seal colony closely and we will also
appreciate the Magellan Forests. Disembark at the bay
of the Brookes Glacier to hike near the glacier. Monday:
Disembark in the bay of the Pia Glacier and excursion
to an observation point.
Navigate through the Beagle Channel and appreciate the
spectacular "Glacier Avenue".
Tuesday:
Navigation through the Beagle Channel and Murray Channel
to disembark at the Cabo de Hornos (Cape Horn) National
Park, weather permitting.
We will visit Horn Island to get a panoramic view of
the famous and mythical Cape Horn, the place where the
Pacific and Atlantic oceans merge and the last promontory
of South America.
Disembark in Puerto Williams, the southernmost town
of the world.
Wednesday:
Arrival at Ushuaia, the most important Argentinean city
of the Tierra del Fuego and the southernmost city in
the world.

Leave Punta Arenas toward Puerto Natales, in the kilometer 43 take
a deviation to the left (rubble); by that road and 35 kilometers
ahead skirting the breast Otway you will arrive to the estancia
(country property) Olga Teresa. There you can hire a cavalcade to
the cave of the Condors, from where you will be able to appreciate
these birds closely. In the kilometer 90 you will get to Río
Verde, a town with hostel where it is the barge to cross the channel
Fitz Roy and to arrive at the Island Riesco. The island has a road
that skirts it by the north and the south next to the breast Skyring
and Otway respectively and as the roads ascend the landscape turns
more forested, with very beautiful views on the sea and the islands.

To the Natural Monument ‘Los Pingüinos’: in the
Island Magdalena. The barges leave from the jetty or from ‘Tres
Puentes’ toward the north by the Magellan's strait until arriving
at the island Magdalena. During the walk inside the island you will
be able to see big colonies of different birds and one of the biggest
penguin places in the south of the continent, of Magellan's variety
penguins. You will also be able to visit the lighthouse of the island,
in which will find a Center of Environmental Interpretation.
To the southern patagonic archipelago: this trip is expensive. It
is necessary to go aboard from 3 to 7 days in trips that leave toward
the south, in deluxe ship, to travel the confines of South America:
channel of Beagle, the glaciers Parry, Marinelli, Serrano, Pía
and Garibaldi. They also visit one another the cities of Port Williams,
in the island Navarino (Chile) and Ushuaia in the Republic Argentina.

Thursday:
With the first light of dawn, navigation will continue
through Almirantazgo Fjord. We will disembark in Ainsworth
Bay near Marinelli Glacier, where we will take a walk
to see an elephant seal colony closely and we will also
appreciate the Magellan Forests.
During the afternoon, we will approach Tucker Islet
on board zodiac boats to admire a small colony of Magellan
Penguins. We will also see other bird species such as
Skuas and Cormorants. The presence of dolphins and sea
lions is also likely. Friday:
DSightseeing of Garibaldi Glacier and the impressive
snow-covered mountains of the Darwin Range.
Disembark at the coast of the Garibaldi Inlet to take
an adventurous excursion where we will appreciate the
wild vegetation and forests on the slopes of the mountains
of the region.
Disembark in the bay of the Pia Glacier and hike to
an observation point.
Saturday:
Early arrival to Ushuaia, the most important Argentinean
city on Tierra del Fuego island and the southernmost
city in the world.
Disembarkation after breakfast, from 8:00 a.m. onwards.

Pecket coal mine and Otway penguin colony |
Departing from Punta Arenas toward the north.
In the kilometer 27 rotate by the road toward the left, 13 kilometers
ahead you will
arrive to the coast of the breast Otway; about 8 more kilometers
you will find the mine Pecket that explodes one of the biggest
sky
open carboniferous mantels of the world. Very near there is located
the penguin place of the breast Otway that occupies a couple
of
coast kilometers. In 1990 the German College of Punta Arenas
took charge of the conservation of this place, since it was
about to
disappear. Fortunately it is repopulating already counting with
near 4,000 couples of Magellan penguins that nest every year.

to visit in the city |
• The Institute of The Patagonia, with a Museum of the Memory
with carriages and machineries of the time of the pioneers, a marine
pavilion, housings of the colonists’ time, old carpentry shop,
a map room and very complete library with sale of publications specialized
in regional matters.
• The Regional Museum Salesiano Maggiorino Borgatello. One
of the most important of the Patagonia, especially renowned because
of its ethnographic collection on the tribes that populated these
lands: the tehuelches, yaganes, alacalufes and onas.
• The Square Muñoz Gamero, with an impressive sculpture
of brass of Hernando de Magallanes in the center. The mansions of
the big pioneers of the cattle raising are around the square, among
which stand out: Palacio Sara Braun and Palacio Braun Menéndez.
• The Foreign trade zone. With an area for wholesalers of
more than 25 hectares and a Business center with two levels, ideal
for the fanatics of the tax-free shopping. |
